Neurodevelopmental assessments for young people
A multidisciplinary team of experts working together to offer an assessment, diagnosis, and management service to children and young people considered at risk for developmental and learning problems including autism spectrum disorder
What is Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity refers to the fact that everyone’s brain varies, and everyone has both strengths and areas where they struggle. To say someone is ‘neurodivergent’ is simply to say that a person thinks differently from the majority. The aim of using this term is to move away from seeing people whose brains are different as diseased or dysfunctional.
Within the neurodiversity movement, the emphasis is very much on strengths and how to change context rather than simply trying to change the child. The shift is from trying to ‘fix’ a problem to discovering a student’s unique requirements for optimal growth. As such, we work hard to offer bespoke and differentiated strategies to support young people.
As a service, we believe in and embrace a neurodivergent way of seeing individual differences. However, labels such as Autism are important for communicating a lot of information efficiently to others and enabling access to services.
